Zscaler launches co-located data centres in Canberra and Auckland
Thu, 30th Jun 2022
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Zscaler has launched a new co-located data centre in Canberra and a second co-located data centre in Auckland.

The investment will now offer public and private sector enterprises in Australia and New Zealand greater resilience in support of their zero trust cybersecurity posture, the company says.

The new sites have been added as part of Zscaler's ongoing investment across its operations in Australia and New Zealand and will complement the existing Zscaler data centre infrastructures in both Sydney and Melbourne, all of which are co-located within Equinix data centres.

At the same time, the new Canberra data centre will assist in providing an increase in capacity to address a significant rise in demand from public sector organisations.

The new data centres will support the company's core products, including Zscaler Private Access (ZPA) and Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA). With compute capabilities, SSL interception, and the security services running at the edge, the new data centres will connect IT users with business applications over the shortest path, providing for a fast, secure user experience. The new investment also further enables Australian and New Zealand companies that are sensitive to data sovereignty to maintain all of their data within their national borders.

The new centres will provide customers with improved capacity and performance and prevent malicious activities from impacting their services. Additionally, customers will receive the speed, scale, and stability of the Zscaler Zero Trust Exchange – the world's largest cloud security platform – to optimise digital experiences and support security for modern, dynamic applications.

"Successful organisations of any size realise that any disruption, regardless of how small a security incident, will have an impact on the business as a whole," says Steve Singer, regional vice president, Australia at Zscaler.

"At present, we support more than a million users from Australia on our platform and these numbers are set to escalate. Bringing new data centre facilities to Canberra and Auckland puts our industry-leading Zscaler Zero Trust Exchange platform closer to our customers," he says.

"Right now, there is an ongoing focus at all levels of the community on the need to reinforce Australia's cybersecurity posture from a range of threats, including potential national state and supply chain attacks," Singer says.

"Our new data centre infrastructure will further support any new programs which the new Federal Government and Minister for Cyber Security may launch to further build awareness of the Essential Eight and continue to reinforce the need for ongoing cyber vigilance.

"At the same time, we also look forward to further supporting New Zealand enterprises to keep information safe and secure and continue to observe CERT NZ guidelines."

The two sites add to Zscaler's more than 150 data centres providing cloud services, which are delivered from Zscaler's own cloud, hosted in geographically distributed, hardened locations that are redundant in power and connectivity globally. The Zscaler Zero Trust Exchange platform is IRAP assessed to Protected.

Zscaler customers in New Zealand include Fletcher Building and Tower while the company's public sector customers in Australia include Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation, Commonwealth Grants Commission, and Cenitex.
