Trend Micro named leader in IDC XDR report for AI security

Thu, 2nd Oct 2025

Trend Micro has been identified as a Leader in the IDC MarketScape 2025 Worldwide Extended Detection and Response (XDR) Software Vendor Assessment.

The report highlights Trend Micro's Trend Vision One Security Operations platform, which offers a range of capabilities combining artificial intelligence, automation, telemetry, and pre-emptive security. According to the assessment, these features are intended to support security operations centre (SOC) teams as they respond to advanced threats, manage alert fatigue, and handle IT complexity.

IDC assessment findings

The IDC MarketScape assessment provides an independent evaluation of software vendors offering extended detection and response solutions, analysing a range of factors including product and service offerings, capabilities, strategies, and future outlook. It delivers a graphical overview of competitive positioning in the market based on a rigorous methodology that combines qualitative and quantitative analyses.

The IDC MarketScape report states: "The Trend Vision One platform name reflects what Trend Micro is trying to achieve: that is, a combination of preemptive security measures, using the network as a medium to measure risk, and the AI, automation, and telemetry needed to properly implement detection and response."

Specifically, the report notes that the Trend Vision One platform is equipped with an extensive set of native detection and response features, covering endpoint, cloud, email, network, data (including file integrity monitoring and data loss prevention across all points), and identity. In addition, the report identifies that Trend's approach benefits from proprietary threat intelligence, which includes data from more than 250 million deployed sensors and is supported by its managed detection and response (MDR) service, as well as research teams such as Trend Research and the Trend Zero Day Initiative.

Platform features

Trend Vision One Security Operations provides multiple integrations and log collection options, supporting over 80 native integrations and including network, identity, cloud activity, and third-party security sources, as well as application logs from widely used platforms. The offering also integrates Cyber Risk Exposure Management (CREM), which features attack surface discovery, vulnerability assessment, and management of exposures.

The report highlights that the Trend Companion AI assistant within the platform can support SOC analysts by providing recommended next steps, while dashboards help users track open cases, vulnerabilities, high-risk devices or users, and other risk metrics. Purchasers are offered a point-based pricing system, allowing them to allocate licence usage flexibly across software and services. The report comments, "What IDC does like about Trend Micro pricing for SecOps is the purchase of credits."

Further, the report states, "The Trend Vision One platform has a long history as a fabric that provides security analytics for security controls and protections, unified risk insights, and detection and response over multiple surfaces supporting cloud, on-premises, and hybrid deployments. Trend Vision One can add insights from multiple layers including endpoint, cloud, email, network, data, and identity, with policy monitoring and enforcement to identify indicators of compromise."

Response from Trend Micro

"We believe the latest IDC MarketScape on XDR provides further validation of Trend's leadership in AI-powered cybersecurity. We're proud to be recognised for our commitment to SOC teams facing sophisticated attacks, IT complexity, and alert fatigue. By turning siloed data into valuable insights and accelerating threat response, we empower SecOps to proactively secure their organisation," said Mick McCluney, ANZ Field CTO at Trend.

The platform's integration of cyber risk exposure capabilities, SIEM, XDR, and orchestration and automation response enables detection, investigation, and response actions from a unified environment. Dashboards, widgets, and the embedded AI assistant are designed to improve analyst efficiency and enable organisations to prioritise risk and response activities more effectively.

Trend Micro's broad suite of security tools accommodates a range of deployment environments, including support for cloud, on-premises, and hybrid architectures. The solutions aim to facilitate unified security analytics, policy enforcement, and monitoring for indicators of compromise across different surfaces.

The recognition by the IDC MarketScape follows a period of growth in organisations seeking enhanced integration and automation in security operations in response to the increasing complexity of digital environments and cyber threats.
