PreAct Technologies, an Oregon-based near-field flash LiDAR technology developer, has unveiled a new line of flash LiDAR sensors set to be showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Indicatively named Sahara, Borrego, and Moab, these high-performing sensors are designed to cater to a multitude of use cases across a diverse range of industries.
Tapping into industries such as agriculture, healthcare, smart cities, retail, security, transportation, education and many more, these devices are equipped to provide affordable and powerful sensing capabilities for any field demanding detailed 3D mapping and modelling.
This launch provides a potent and competitively priced alternative for the USD $30 billion near-field sensing market, currently dominated by outdated technologies from previous decades.
Paul Drysch, Co-Founder and CEO of PreAct Technologies, highlighted that through ongoing interactions with customers and prospects, the company recognised the potential to leverage its core technology to develop multiple sensors tailored to diverse market requirements. This realisation underscored PreAct Technologies' adaptability and responsiveness to the specific needs of various markets.

Paul Drysch highlighted that the flexibility and software-definability of their technology allow the creation of different form factors. These new form factors can exceed the performance of the currently deployed technology and meet regulatory requirements around data privacy while also fulfilling consumer demands for enhanced safety and increased convenience.
The Sahara sensor has been created for outdoor use cases that demand up to 20 meters of sensing capabilities, such as robotics, automotive, trucking and university research. It has an IP69K rating and can withstand intense ambient light settings. Sahara's small packaging size and design allow for flexible placement.
On the other hand, the Borrego sensor is positioned to provide extended, narrow space coverage for security, logistics and agriculture applications. It is designed to be mountable out of the way and is equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, reducing costs in installation.
The Moab sensor, which is an advanced version of PreAct's general-purpose LiDAR sensor, Mojave, is equipped with the AI capabilities of Nvidia's Jetson Nano and is best suited for education, healthcare, smart cities, agriculture, retail, and security applications.
In April of this year, PreAct launched Mojave, the industry's first software-definable flash LiDAR. With software-definable capabilities, depth accuracy error of less than 2%, and a single unit retail cost of USD $350, Mojave is the pioneering mass-market LiDAR currently distributed globally by Amazon, Brevan Electronics, Arrow Electronics, and Digikey.
