Optic Security Group has secured two category wins at the 2025 Australian Security Industry Awards.

Team members from Queensland and South Australia received accolades across both the "Unsung Hero (Electronic Security Sector)" and "Integrated Security Solution (under USD $500,000)" categories.

Unsung Hero recognised

Rebecca Sorgiovanni was named the winner of the Unsung Hero (Electronic Security Sector) category for her work as Group Corporate Services Development Manager. Her leadership was particularly evident during the introduction of a new Corporate Services function, which spanned seven Australian states and territories, as well as New Zealand.

Stuart Norton-Baker, Group Corporate Services Manager, commented on her contribution:

"The implementation and roll out of Corporate Services in the Group was an unprecedented and significant undertaking - it had never before been attempted in the business," said Group Corporate Services Manager Stuart Norton-Baker.

He added, "This was a massive endeavour that required the whole business to acclimatise to new ways of doing things, new levels of accountability, and new timelines. Rebecca's work - and the way she went about her work - ensured optimal acceptance and compliance with this new regime."

Airport project success

Wesley Wyatt, who led the Sunshine Coast Airport CCTV upgrade, shared the win in the Integrated Security Solution (under USD $500,000) category. The project featured the transition from IndigoVision to Avigilon Unity, utilising existing airport hardware and introducing artificial intelligence technology to the surveillance system.

The customer highlighted the scope and complexity of the upgrade, noting obstacles related to the legacy infrastructure. In a statement provided as part of the awards submission, the customer said:

"Optic Security group were tasked with undertaking a major VMS transition, utilising existing hardware and infrastructure. The project included introducing AI technology to the business and saw major obstacles with existing infrastructure."

The customer further observed, "The Optic team showed their expertise in security technology and their tenacity to bring the new VMS and all its capabilities online, set up appropriately to effectively support safety and security outcomes at Sunshine Coast Airport... The efficacy of the projects and strong relationship developed by Optic Security Group are a true testament to the culture and excellence within Optic Security Group as a business."

Industry response

Mike Cunningham, Managing Director at Optic Security Group, celebrated the dual honours and recognised the contributions of the staff across the Group:

"We at Optic are very proud of Rebecca and Wes and their industry achievements. While all staff at Optic Security continue to serve our customers to exemplary standards, it is truly wonderful to see the industry recognise and reward such efforts."
