Motorola unveils V200 body camera for frontline safety

Today

Motorola Solutions has introduced a new bodyworn camera, known as the V200, aimed at enhancing the safety of frontline workers in various environments including stores, hospitals, hotels, schools, and stadiums.

The newly unveiled V200 camera presents features intended for both documenting incidents and serving as a preventive measure against unwanted behaviour. Its discreet and lightweight design makes it appropriate for regular use as part of a uniform. A key function of the device is its recording capability, which can be initiated via a button to capture video, potentially deterring undesirable conduct.

In more critical situations such as medical emergencies or criminal activities, the GoLive Audio feature of the camera can activate, thereby connecting security personnel or a supervisor to the live video and audio feed. This allows them to interject directly through the camera's speaker, providing immediate support while the worker concentrates on managing the situation.

Jeremiah Nelson, Corporate Vice President, Command Centre Software and Evidence Products at Motorola Solutions, commented, "Industries like retail, healthcare, hospitality and education are recognising the value of body cameras to improve safety for their workers and those they serve. In these environments, feeling safe at work is key. The V200 was purpose-built to give frontline workers peace of mind on the job, offering proactive and immediate assistance when and where they need it."

The introduction of the V200 follows insights gained from a report on retail worker safety by Motorola Solutions in 2024, which shed light on the safety concerns faced by workers. The report highlighted that over a quarter of retail employees have contemplated leaving their jobs due to safety worries. Furthermore, approximately half of those surveyed expressed the sentiment that body cameras could enhance their sense of security, and a majority believed that video footage from body cameras could be beneficial in investigations.

Body cameras have seen broader adoption in the UK, where 70 per cent of respondents in related surveys acknowledged their effectiveness in de-escalating potentially dangerous situations. Dr. Reed Hayes from the Loss Prevention Research Council remarked on the impact of such technologies, stating, "When people feel safe, they can be more focused and productive. Body worn cameras are an investment in employee safety and morale which can have a direct and positive impact on team efficiency and the overall work environment."

The V200 is part of Motorola Solutions' broader portfolio of enterprise security solutions, which includes specialised video security, access control, and communications technologies designed to boost security and safety in educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and businesses of varying sizes.
