Defence renews Kinetic IT deal for ICT & base support

Wed, 28th Jan 2026

The Australian Department of Defence has selected Kinetic IT for a contract covering ICT Service Desk, Switchboard, and Base Services Contact Centre work.

The agreement runs for two years. It includes options that could extend the term to a maximum of four years.

Kinetic IT will continue work it already performs for Defence, including ICT Service Desk and Switchboard services. The scope also adds Base Services Contact Centre services.

Contact Centre Scope

Kinetic IT described the Base Services Contact Centre as a national service for Defence personnel who need assistance with on-base enquiries and services.

The company said it has worked within Defence's ICT environment since 2019. It said it first received an ICT Service Desk contract that year.

Leighton Freene, Managing Director - Defence and Federal Government, Kinetic IT, said the company viewed the selection as a continuation and expansion of that relationship.

"We are honoured to continue our collaboration with the Australian Department of Defence and to deliver these services. Defence plays a critical role in Australia's national security, and we are proud to provide the ICT capabilities that support its mission. This agreement recognises the strength of our sovereign solutions; the technical capability of our staff and our dedication to evergreen customer service," said Leighton Freene, Managing Director - Defence and Federal Government, Kinetic IT.

Workforce Clearances

Kinetic IT said it has 250 Australian Government Security Vetting Agency cleared personnel dedicated to Department of Defence systems.

It also said it has more than 700 additional Australian Government Security Vetting Agency cleared personnel across its national workforce. The company said it has more than 1,500 employees.

Local Commitments

Kinetic IT said it has an "Australian-first employment" approach. It also referenced local SME partnerships, First Nations owned businesses, and pathways for veterans and first responders.

The company said it delivers technology services across federal and state government, Defence, and key infrastructure sectors. It said it has operated for more than 25 years and remains privately owned.

Freene also addressed the company's work supporting Defence service delivery and staff efforts.

Freene also said being endorsed by Defence to continue our partnership across the service desk, switchboard and now Base Contact Centre Services is an extremely proud moment for the organisation. He acknowledged the commitment and effort that Kinetic IT's Defence support teams put in each and every day.

"This agreement recognises the strength of our sovereign solutions; the technical capability of our staff and our dedication to evergreen customer service," added Freene.

Kinetic IT said the Base Services Contact Centre forms part of its services for Defence personnel, alongside the continuing ICT Service Desk and Switchboard functions under the new contract term.
