VITG buys Security Centric to boost cyber security
Virtual IT Group has acquired Sydney-based cyber security consultancy Security Centric, expanding its security practice across Australia and New Zealand.
Security Centric's team will join VITG's security business, creating a combined group of about 45 cyber security specialists. Founder Sash Vasilevski will join VITG's executive team as Chief Security Officer.
The acquisition adds expertise in managed detection and response, governance, risk and compliance advisory, security engineering, and technical assurance. It also strengthens VITG's Australia and New Zealand Security Operations Centre and its automation platform.
Rising demand
The deal comes as mid-market organisations face more frequent and complex cyber incidents. Demand is also rising for governance and risk support as businesses expand their use of artificial intelligence across operations.
Founded with roots in defence and the federal government sector, Security Centric brings added depth in security services more often associated with larger enterprise customers.
VITG is an Australian-founded managed services and managed security services provider with ten offices across Australia and New Zealand. It has more than 400 employees and focuses on mid-market organisations and their business systems.
The acquisition also reflects broader consolidation in the technology services market, as providers seek wider cyber security coverage while customers look to consolidate IT operations, monitoring, and advisory work under fewer suppliers. Mid-sized companies have become a growing target as cyber attacks spread beyond large corporates and public sector agencies.
Leadership change
Vasilevski's appointment as Chief Security Officer gives VITG a senior executive dedicated to security within the enlarged business. The integration is intended to preserve continuity for Security Centric's existing customers while giving them access to deeper engineering resources and a broader national footprint.
Security Centric customers will continue working with the same team following the transaction, while also gaining access to VITG's broader operational scale across the trans-Tasman market.
For VITG, the acquisition strengthens its existing governance, risk and compliance practice as organisations face tighter scrutiny over risk management, data protection, and cyber resilience. Businesses are under pressure to demonstrate stronger controls to regulators, insurers, boards, and customers.
Mid-market focus
Both companies are placing particular emphasis on the mid-market, where organisations often have fewer in-house resources than large enterprises to manage security monitoring, compliance, and incident response. Service providers have increasingly targeted this segment with outsourced security offerings that combine advisory and operational support.
VITG said the combination would give customers access to integrated technology and cyber security functions that may previously have been harder to obtain, including support across detection, response, engineering, and assurance.
Australia and New Zealand have seen sustained concern over cyber resilience as attacks on businesses become more disruptive and costly. In response, providers have expanded their offerings to include around-the-clock monitoring, governance support, and technical assurance services.
The expansion of VITG's security business suggests cyber security will play a larger role in its growth strategy, particularly among organisations balancing tighter budgets with rising security requirements. Bringing specialist cyber skills into a broader managed services business can also help providers offer a single operating model to customers seeking simpler procurement and clearer accountability.
Executive comments
"Our customers will see continuity with meaningful uplift. The same trusted team will now be supported by deeper engineering capability, automation expertise, and national reach," said Sash Vasilevski, Chief Executive Officer, Security Centric.
"Mid-market organisations across ANZ are being hit harder and more often by increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. Security Centric brings exceptional capability and a pragmatic, customer-first mindset that aligns strongly with VITG's vision. Together, we will deliver scalable, security-led outcomes that give customers confidence and resilience in a rapidly changing environment," said McCarthy.
