Trend Micro launches VPN offering

06 Jun 2019

Cybersecurity company Trend Micro today announced Trend Micro WiFi Protection for PC, Mac, Android and iOS devices.

The new addition to Trend Micro’s mobile security solutions enables customers to turn any public hotspot into a secure WiFi network via Virtual Private Network (VPN) so they can shop, bank and use social media securely anywhere they go.

The solution is launched following recent research conducted by Trend Micro which found that more than one-in-three (37%) Australians regularly connect to public Wi-Fi networks, despite privacy concerns that their personal information will be stolen (81%) or bank account will be hacked (70%).

As consumers continue to engage in risky behaviours that can expose their personal and financial information, this reinforces the need to ensure unlimited protection on mobile devices.

By using VPN with bank-grade data encryption, Trend Micro WiFi Protection allows consumers to safeguard an otherwise unsecured network and be one step ahead of cybercriminals.

VPNs reroute Internet traffic through encrypted servers, encrypting data travelling to and from a mobile device — essentially making it harder for hackers on the network to see other people’s activity and access their details.

“The risk posed by accessing public WiFi is definitely not worth the reward, especially if it can be avoided by taking simple measures,” says Trend Micro APAC consumer senior director Tim Falinski.

“Trend Micro WiFi Protection will help combat the fact that Australians will continue to take these risks for greater access to the Internet. It can be installed on up to six devices and automatically turns on a VPN when the device connects to an unsecured WiFi network, whether in a coffee shop, hotel, airport or even walking down the street.”

Trend Micro WiFi Protection also offers users:

  • Bank-grade encryption to keep information safe from hackers
  • Integrated web threat protection to protect against malicious websites, online fraud or scam
  • Does not track your location
  • Does not track your online activity
  • Automatically turns on when detecting a WiFi network with low security

Trend Micro WiFi Protection is available as a standalone solution and can also be bundled with Trend Micro Mobile Security and Trend Micro Maximum Security.

It can be purchased online and in-store at Harvey Norman and JB Hi-Fi.

Trend Micro’s solutions for consumers, businesses, and governments provide layered security for data centres, cloud environments, networks, and endpoints.
