Thales launches Passwordless 360 to revolutionise authentication

Fri, 7th Jun 2024

Thales, a global technology and security provider, has introduced Passwordless 360, a new framework for enterprise passwordless authentication. This innovative solution consolidates all authentication needs into one system to simplify the authentication process across diverse applications, improve security, and reduce costs for organisations.

The modern passwordless authentication initiative addresses a prevalent issue. The average person deals with as many as 100 passwords, often leading to reuse and simplified passwords, which increase the risk of theft and phishing. Passwordless 360 aims to alleviate these frustrations and mitigate security risks associated with traditional password use.

Thales offers a broad array of features under the Passwordless 360 umbrella, including support for FIDO passkeys. The system is designed to integrate with previous investments companies might have made in passwordless technologies, ensuring a seamless transition while leveraging the latest advancements in the field.

With Passwordless 360, organisations can utilise passwordless authentication across various applications, ensuring secure access to personal and work devices alongside legacy and modern web resources. This unified approach is cost-effective and enhances user adoption rates among employees, customers, and suppliers by providing a simplified and secure authentication process.

The Passwordless 360 system's flexibility allows it to meet specific risk management requirements. It adheres to NIST standards regardless of where passkeys are stored, making it a versatile solution suitable for highly regulated industries and security-conscious organisations.

Thales has integrated Passwordless 360 with its existing OneWelcome Identity Platform, which serves as the backbone for passwordless policies. The concept encompasses several key components, including support for passkeys, Passwordless Windows Logon, SafeNet FIDO Key Manager, and FIDO Authenticator Lifecycle Management. The latter, developed in collaboration with identity management software company Versasec, enables large enterprises to manage FIDO tokens effectively, facilitating the adoption of modern FIDO standards at scale.

The introduction of Passwordless 360 coincides with Thales's recognition as an Overall Leader in the KuppingerCole 2024 Leadership Compass on Passwordless Authentication for Consumers. The platform received praise for its comprehensive set of identity applications and its ability to meet diverse authentication needs across various industries.

According to Alejandro Leal, Research Analyst at KuppingerCole, "Thales offers a comprehensive solution that enables organisations to improve their identity management practices, adapt to evolving technologies, and effectively secure their systems and data. Organisations in highly regulated industries and security-conscious sectors should consider the OneWelcome Identity Platform."
