SonicWall has launched SonicWall Endpoint Security for managed service providers serving small and mid-sized businesses. It is available as either an endpoint detection and response tool or a managed detection and response service.

The launch adds a new endpoint offering to SonicWall's managed service provider portfolio. The managed version is delivered through the company's SonicSentry security operations centre.

The product combines next-generation antivirus and endpoint detection and response in a single agent, managed through a multi-tenant console for providers handling multiple customer environments. The software also includes automated threat response, device control, and integration with security information and event management systems and ticketing tools.

It includes a ransomware rollback function designed to restore compromised endpoints to an earlier known-good state. The platform uses SonicWall's Real-Time Deep Memory Inspection engine alongside behaviour-based heuristic scanning and automated storyline responses for threat detection and investigation.

MSP focus

SonicWall is targeting providers that work with smaller customers and may lack the staff or budget to run a full security operation. The managed detection and response version is aimed at partners without an in-house security practice that want outsourced deployment, threat hunting, incident response, and policy management.

The broader market backdrop is growing demand for endpoint protection among smaller organisations, which are often priced out of more complex cyber tools while facing rising exposure to ransomware and other attacks. SonicWall cited figures showing that one in three small and medium-sized businesses are expected to experience a cyberattack, while 60% of managed service providers that suffer a breach never fully recover.

Chandro Prasad, Chief Product Officer at SonicWall, said the company sees a gap between what smaller customers need and what many service providers can viably deliver.

"MSPs shouldn't have to choose between enterprise-grade protection and margin viability," said Chandro Prasad, Chief Product Officer at SonicWall. "SonicWall Endpoint Security ends that trade-off. It gives MSPs and their customers the same detection and response technology enterprises rely on, built into a platform that's easy to deploy, easy to manage, and priced for real-world budgets."

Three tiers

SonicWall is offering the product in three service tiers. Endpoint Security Advanced includes core next-generation antivirus and endpoint detection and response, while Endpoint Security Premier adds longer telemetry retention for forensic work.

A third option, MDR for Endpoint Security, adds round-the-clock security operations centre coverage, managed threat hunting, and policy management. All three options are priced for small and medium-sized business customers and will be sold through SonicWall's partner network on monthly or term subscriptions.

The launch also extends SonicWall's wider security platform, with the endpoint product designed to sit alongside the company's firewall and cloud security products within its unified management environment. That may appeal to existing partners already using SonicWall infrastructure and looking to consolidate administration across different parts of a customer's security estate.

Beta feedback

One managed service provider involved in the beta programme said the product was straightforward to introduce into production use.

"Deployment was seamless, management was intuitive, and the preconfigured policies let us deliver meaningful protection right away," said Johnny S. Casiano III, Director of Professional Services at Firewalls.com. "We evaluated the platform thoroughly through the beta program, and there is no stronger endorsement than trusting the same technology to protect our own business that we confidently recommend to our customers."

SonicWall said the product has also been listed in the VB100 testing programme run by Virus Bulletin. The company has more than 17,000 partners globally and has been expanding its focus on channel-led security services as managed service providers take on a larger role in cyber defence for smaller businesses.
