Semperis appoints Alex Weinert to drive hybrid identity security

Today

Semperis has announced the appointment of Alex Weinert as its new Chief Product Officer.

Weinert is widely recognised for his expertise in identity security, having previously led Microsoft's identity defence team, which was charged with protecting billions of users across the company's large-scale identity platform supporting nearly 45 billion sign-ins each day.

At Semperis, Weinert is set to head product strategy and development, with a remit focused on advancing protection for hybrid IT environments and enabling enterprises to address more sophisticated security threats.

"Semperis has been advancing a visionary mission to secure hybrid identities since its inception and it is an exciting time to be joining the company as they improve the operational resilience of global organisations and drive a mission of being a force for good," Weinert said.

He continued: "In an era where hybrid environments are the norm and threats grow increasingly sophisticated, AI-powered identity protection and cyber resilience is not just pivotal, it's imperative. Semperis has been long known for its identity-first cybersecurity approach, positioning us uniquely to continue building a resilience methodology supported by products and services ensuring the integrity of our customers' environments."

Weinert's prior experience includes his tenure as Vice President of Identity Security at Microsoft, where he led a team responsible for the core defence components of the firm's Zero Trust offerings. This encompassed technologies such as Entra ID Protection, Entra Conditional Access, multifactor authentication, the Microsoft Authenticator app, and a range of account defence systems for enterprise and consumer markets.

Earlier in his career, Weinert held engineering and product management roles at Microsoft, contributing to products including MSN, Visual Studio, and Xbox, in addition to identity-focused solutions such as Active Directory and Forefront Identity Manager. He also worked with Semperis during his time at Microsoft to help develop identity security standards and delivered keynote speeches at the 2023 and 2024 Hybrid Identity Protection Conferences hosted by Semperis.

Mickey Bresman, Chief Executive Officer of Semperis, commented on the appointment, stating, "I share the excitement that all Semperians do in welcoming Alex as the company's Chief Product Officer. He is widely recognised as one of the world's foremost experts in identity security. His deep technical skills and strategic vision will be instrumental as we continue to innovate at the intersection of identity security and cyber resilience. Alex brings a unique perspective that will help us accelerate product excellence and deliver even greater value to our customers and partners in today's evolving threat landscape."

Weinert noted the significance of identity security for businesses worldwide, saying, "Today, there is no more critical place to invest for global security than in digital identity. Semperis is positioned beautifully to extend its already impressive suite of offerings to provide identity integrity to organisations all over the world, meeting them where they are in their identity deployments. Semperis can extend this methodology to help prevent, respond to, and recover from organisational crises — evolving past identity resilience to encompass organisational resilience."

In addition to his professional background, Weinert has been involved in charitable endeavours for over two decades. He founded the Seattle-based paediatric cancer charity Crush Kids' Cancer, which raised over USD $1 million for adaptive T-cell immunotherapy treatments for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and other treatments. Weinert also serves on the board of Sound Experience, which offers science-based environmental education aboard the historic schooner Adventuress.

Semperis focuses on safeguarding enterprise identity services for organisations operating in hybrid and multi-cloud settings, working to prevent cyberattacks, data breaches, and operational mishaps. Its technology is designed specifically for hybrid identity environments and, according to the company, secures over 100 million identities globally.

The company also offers several cyber community resources, including the Hybrid Identity Protection Conference and Podcast, as well as identity security tools such as Purple Knight and Forest Druid, serving a global customer base in over 40 countries.
