Samsung brings One UI 9 to Galaxy S26 in Australia

Samsung is expanding One UI 9 to more Galaxy devices in Australia, starting with the Galaxy S26 range at the end of September.

The software has already launched on Samsung's latest foldables, including the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8. The wider release brings a new set of Galaxy AI features to more of Samsung's mobile line-up.

One UI 9 adds tools for video, summaries, translation, scanning and voice notes, while extending Samsung's security and privacy features. The update is intended to make routine tasks easier and give users more control over what appears on their devices.

New tools

Among the additions is My FanCam, a video feature that automatically tracks a selected person in recorded footage and keeps them centred as the scene moves. It is aimed at people recording performances, parties and sport, where subjects may move around the frame.

Samsung is also updating Now Brief, the summary feature that pulls together daily information. New generative, editable cards will let users choose which content appears in summaries across categories including health, weather and video.

A new Warranty and Care section brings device support information into the software. Users will be able to check warranty coverage on connected mobile devices, run self-diagnostics, view repair estimates, manage Samsung Care+ and book service appointments.

AI changes

The update expands Galaxy AI's role in day-to-day tasks. Now Nudge, which offers prompts based on real-time context, is being extended to more moments across the Galaxy experience.

Samsung gave the example of users making plans over text and being able to pull up reservation details or save a shared location without leaving the conversation. Creative Studio is also getting event-based prompts that can suggest image ideas linked to occasions such as birthdays.

Interpreter is getting a new Thread View, allowing users to refer back to earlier parts of translated conversations. Translation speeds in Conversation Mode have also been improved, with faster playback available when the feature is used with compatible Galaxy Buds.

Document Scan is being updated to better handle awkward source material such as curved book pages and folded paper corners. Improvements to large-screen layouts and a Finger Eraser tool are intended to produce cleaner scans with less manual adjustment.

Voice Recorder is also changing, with summaries displayed in a more structured layout using headings and tables. This is intended to make recorded information easier to review quickly.

Privacy focus

Security and privacy features are another part of the release. Security Brief will place alerts about malware, apps from unknown sources and unnecessary permissions inside Now Brief, giving users a regular view of issues that may need attention.

Privacy Alerts uses on-device AI to flag possible risks, including background attempts to access permissions that may not be needed. The aim is to give users a clearer picture of how their information is being accessed.

Scam Detection is also expanding to more countries and languages, with Japan, Canada and India included in the broader rollout.

Support for some features will vary by market, language, device model and app. Several tools also require a Samsung Account login, while some AI functions depend on a network connection.

Privacy Alerts will be supported across a wide range of Samsung devices beyond the S26 line, including earlier Galaxy S models, foldables and tablets. The list includes the Galaxy S25, S24 and S23 families, several Z Fold and Z Flip devices, and Galaxy Tab S series tablets.

The staggered release shows Samsung continuing to use software updates to bring newer AI features to devices beyond its latest hardware. In Australia, the first stage of the rollout will focus on the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra.
