Samsung appliances achieve IoT security certification from TÜV Nord
Samsung has announced that several of its digital appliances have received Internet of Things (IoT) security certification from TÜV Nord, a global certification organisation based in Germany.
This recognition covers the Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam, Bespoke Jet Bot Combo, and Bespoke AI Refrigerators, marking the first time Samsung's digital appliances have achieved TÜV Nord security certification.
Certification standards
TÜV Nord is known internationally as an IECEE-accredited National Certification Body, providing certification based on the ETSI EN 303 645 standard. This benchmark, set by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), governs security and privacy for consumer IoT devices throughout their lifecycle - from initial design and development, through to distribution and operational use.
The certification examines key criteria, such as data encryption, authentication and access control, secure software updates, personal data protection, and vulnerability management, to ensure comprehensive security measures are in place.
Regulatory environment
Security requirements for smart home devices in the European market are intensifying, with changes to the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) and the pending implementation of the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). TÜV Nord's certification indicates that Samsung is prepared to meet these evolving international standards and reflects its stated commitment to user protection within connected home environments.
Security features
According to Samsung, its home appliances are enhanced with Knox security technologies, which aim to protect user data through multiple security layers. For example, devices such as the Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam and Bespoke Jet Bot Combo include a function to verify if unauthorised firmware modifications have occurred when powered on. In addition, all surveillance video and user commands from these devices are encrypted and only decrypted at the intended destination.
The Bespoke AI Refrigerators introduced in 2025 also incorporate Knox Matrix and Knox Vault features. Knox Matrix provides mutual security checks between devices to alert users to possible data theft risks. Meanwhile, Knox Vault is designed to protect sensitive information - such as passwords - by processing and storing this data within a dedicated hardware subsystem.
Executive commentary
"As the global focus on smart home security intensifies, Samsung continues to deliver robust protection through our Knox security platform. This certification validates the strength of our security technologies, and we will continue to enhance differentiated protection to safeguard customer data."
This statement was provided by Jeong Seung Moon, Executive Vice President and Head of the R&D Team for Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics.
Global rollout
While the Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam is due to be unveiled in September 2025, the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo and Bespoke AI Refrigerators are already being introduced in selected markets worldwide, including Australia. Samsung reports that these products' enhanced security features are part of its ongoing effort to meet international expectations for user data protection in the smart home sector.
