Rubrik enhances AWS integration with new cyber features

Today

Rubrik has announced new capabilities for its joint customers on Amazon Web Services (AWS) aimed at bolstering cyber resilience.

The core of Rubrik's expanded offerings is the Rubrik Cloud Vault (RCV), an isolated, air-gapped, and immutable backup repository managed entirely by Rubrik.

The company is enhancing its AWS features to include Anomaly Detection, Threat Monitoring, Threat Hunting, and Data Discovery & Classification.

Anneka Gupta, Chief Product Officer at Rubrik, explained the complexities involved in recovering from cyberattacks. "Surviving a cyberattack is not as simple as just restoring from a backup. IT and security teams must also rapidly pinpoint when the attack occurred, identify what was compromised, and determine if sensitive data was impacted — all while trying to find a clean, safe recovery point," she said.

She added that the collaboration between Rubrik and AWS aims to empower organisations to recover swiftly and securely while reducing the risk of reinfection.

Rubrik Cloud Vault on AWS is designed to provide a fully managed, isolated, off-site archive for backup data. This is intended to alleviate the challenges businesses face in protecting backup data managed internally. It aims to deliver immutable and isolated data protection, allowing for secure recovery from cyber threats. Additionally, it includes Rubrik-managed security with features such as immutability, role-based access controls, advanced encryption, quorum authorisation, and comprehensive monitoring.

Rubrik is also extending advanced security features to AWS customers, promising deeper insights into sensitive data and emerging cyber threats. These features will include Anomaly Detection through machine learning to identify potential ransomware actions by detecting deletions, modifications, and encryptions.

Alongside Anomaly Detection, the introduction of Threat Monitoring seeks to expedite investigations and minimise malware reinfection risks by analysing backup snapshots with the aid of a current threat intelligence feed.

Threat Hunting and Data Discovery & Classification are designed to pinpoint the initial point, scope, and timing of infections, reducing sensitive data exposure and managing exfiltration risks by identifying sensitive data in files and applications.

The Anomaly Detection feature is currently available to all AWS customers, with additional capabilities like Threat Hunting, Threat Monitoring, and Data Discovery & Classification, along with Rubrik Cloud Vault, anticipated for early 2025.
