Permaconn unveils Video IQ to modernise existing CCTV systems
Permaconn has released Video IQ, a cloud-based service designed to convert any existing camera into an intelligent, monitored security solution in less than 10 minutes.
Video IQ, suitable for both commercial and residential installations, is intended to help installers update CCTV systems without the need for expensive hardware replacements or tangled integration work.
The solution aims to address the challenge faced by security professionals tasked with modernising legacy camera systems, particularly when traditional approaches have required significant investment in new equipment and complex coordination with IT networks.
Technical barriers
Kendall Paix, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Permaconn, said the company wanted to reduce the obstacles associated with upgrading unmonitored camera setups.
"Security installers face real technical challenges converting unmonitored cameras into fit for purpose solutions," said Kendall Paix, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Permaconn.
He further explained how Video IQ is set up to simplify implementation and speed up deployment timelines for security professionals, regardless of the existing infrastructure.
"Video IQ makes smart video services simple and fast to deploy by removing technical barriers that slow projects down and ensuring compatibility with existing infrastructure, or easy and cost-efficient incorporation into new installations," he adds.
The platform also does not require costly edge computing devices, thanks to its cloud-first architecture:
"Importantly, by taking a cloud-first approach, Video IQ makes high quality video verification widely available by eliminating the need for high cost edge computing devices used in other solutions."
Service features
Among its features, Video IQ provides Video Verification, which delivers real-time video clips to monitoring centres and, optionally, customers, enabling swift and accurate decision-making. Another component, Virtual Patrol, allows users to schedule patrols using their existing cameras, intended to lower the costs associated with physical patrols.
The platform uses Permaconn's ISO27001-certified private network, which the company says offers 99.99% uptime and reduces the risk of cyber threats by limiting reliance on customer networks.
Andrew Pears, Chief Executive Officer at Permaconn, described the intended impact of the new service on decision-making and operational efficiency in security monitoring.
"Video IQ is designed to deliver real-time visual intelligence in moments that matter. It's more than just a camera feed, it's about enabling faster, smarter decisions when every second counts. In addition, with many installers experiencing a lower level of activity following last year's 3G switch off, Video IQ provides installers with an ability to increasing monthly recurring revenue through value-added services, while monitoring centres gain an ability to make more intelligent decision in shorter timeframe, with a direct increase in protection offered to monitoring customers."
Deployment and industry reach
Permaconn reports that Video IQ has already seen deployment in the Australian pharmaceuticals and construction sectors, and notes further applicability in areas such as gyms, retail, warehouses, and property management.
The service is available as an upgrade to existing CCTV infrastructure, or can be run independently, reducing network integration requirements and minimising exposure to cyber risks. Video clips are transmitted securely from cameras to monitoring centres via Permaconn's network, bypassing the need for connections through less secure customer networks.
With these capabilities, the product targets businesses across Australia and New Zealand that operate millions of unmonitored CCTV cameras, offering a path to improved monitoring without major capital investments. By providing tools for automated patrolling, rapid incident verification, and direct-to-customer notifications, Video IQ is positioned as an option for organisations looking to modernise their security posture while generating new recurring revenue streams for installers and monitoring centres.
