Papua New Guinea adopts TechnologyOne SaaS for 200 agencies

Today

The Government of Papua New Guinea has entered into an agreement with TechnologyOne to deploy a modern Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution across over 200 governmental agencies.

Having partnered with TechnologyOne since 2005, Papua New Guinea will now advance further in its digital transformation. The initiative involves implementing TechnologyOne's Financials SaaS solution, which aims to streamline budgets and expenditures management by providing a "single source of truth". This system will enable senior management to develop dashboards to effectively report on strategic goals, enhance decision-making, and monitor objectives.

The Department of Finance, Treasury, Department of Health, Department of National Planning & Monitoring, Department of Lands & Physical Planning, among others, will deploy modules for general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, and enterprise budgeting. This implementation, part of a Shared Services model, is expected to offer a comprehensive real-time financial data view for each agency, aiding in managing reports and budgets, ensuring timely payments, and optimising operational efficiency through automated processes.

Stephen Nukuitu, Deputy Secretary of Operations at Papua New Guinea's Department of Finance, stated, "The move to TechnologyOne's secure SaaS solution is a key step as part of our Government Cloud Policy 2021, a strategic shift to leverage SaaS to improve Government service delivery and enhance commercial and business activities."

"We recognised the need for improved business processes to take manual work away from our team and provide a transparent view of all our financial data, allowing us to make decisions and complete tasks for our community faster," added Mr Nukuitu.

"Our main priority is our community and keeping our community's data safe. In 2022, we had a cyberattack on our on-premise system which resulted in our residents not being able to receive payments that they were waiting for over the Christmas period. That's when we knew we needed to make the switch to SaaS to ensure data stays safe and secure," Mr Nukuitu stated.

TechnologyOne's SaaS solution promises to offer heightened security and privacy, which is crucial for any governmental operation. The company, identified as a notable government enterprise SaaS vendor, integrates the latest security and privacy technologies, and allocates 20 per cent of its revenue annually towards research and development.

Ed Chung, Chief Executive Officer of TechnologyOne, commented, "We have partnered with government agencies and departments for more than 30 years now. Our OneGovernment solution focuses on delivering a highly secure platform, seamless services, and key business operations to keep our customers ahead of the curve."

"It's a project close to my heart, my parents immigrated from PNG to Australia in 1977. We are proud to support the Government of Papua New Guinea transform its back-end IT systems to SaaS so it can deliver quality support for its community. Rolling out widespread, modern, and resilient infrastructure with sufficient capacity is key to the economic development and resilience of PNG," Mr Chung noted.
