NCIT 2025 to focus on secure digital growth for the Pacific

Tue, 5th Aug 2025

NCIT 2025 will convene technology, business, and policy leaders to address digital transformation and security challenges facing the Pacific region.

The National Conference on Information Technology (NCIT 2025) is scheduled to return this September, aiming to shape a digitally connected and secure future for Pacific Island nations. The two-day event will be held at the Warwick Fiji Resort, Coral Coast, and is expected to draw key figures from government, industry, and civil society.

This year's conference will explore the impact of emerging technologies such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and data analytics on Pacific economies. The agenda includes keynote speeches from both global and regional experts, interactive workshops, and a showcase of digital solutions tailored to local requirements.

Focus on cybersecurity

A central theme at NCIT 2025 will be cybersecurity, highlighted by a keynote from Jayaprakash (JP) Muthusamy, Chief Executive Officer of Borderless CS, a cybersecurity firm based in the Pacific. JP Muthusamy will argue that cybersecurity is critical not only for protection but also as a driver for innovation and socio-economic development.

"The Pacific is uniquely positioned to leapfrog into a digitally empowered future," said JP ahead of the conference. "By harnessing the right technologies and building secure, scalable ecosystems, we can transform traditional industries and uplift entire communities."

According to JP Muthusamy, cybersecurity should be viewed as central to all digital initiatives in the region, integrated from the outset rather than treated as an add-on.

"The Pacific has an opportunity to build its digital future on a foundation of trust and resilience," he notes. "By integrating cybersecurity into every stage of technological adoption - from cloud migration to AI implementation - businesses and governments can innovate with confidence."

Borderless CS has supported organisations in the Pacific by providing services such as risk assessments, incident response planning, and real-time threat monitoring. These efforts underline the importance of trust for successful digital transformation, particularly in interconnected systems where vulnerabilities can have wide-ranging impacts.

Broader impact of digital transformation

NCIT 2025 will also explore how digital innovation could benefit various sectors across the Pacific. Examples include the use of IoT sensors and data analytics to help agricultural producers adapt to changing climatic conditions and optimise yields. In tourism, digital platforms may enhance visitor experiences and assist local businesses in accessing global markets.

Financial technology is being positioned as a means to extend banking services to remote communities, while telemedicine could help close healthcare gaps across different islands. However, attaining these benefits will require not just adoption of technology but also investment in digital skills, supportive policy frameworks, and robust infrastructure.

Path forward through collaboration

The conference is hosted by the Fiji National University's National Training and Productivity Centre (NTPC). Organisers intend for the event to serve as a platform where stakeholders from various sectors can pursue a collaborative approach to the challenges and opportunities facing the Pacific's digital landscape.

The organisers have opened registration for the conference and are encouraging a broad spectrum of stakeholders - including policymakers, entrepreneurs, and students - to participate and contribute to discussions about the region's digital future.

NCIT 2025 is expected to provide insight into technology trends affecting the Pacific, with a particular focus on ensuring that digital transformation efforts are secure and sustainable.
