Illumio named Gartner Customers’ Choice for security

Illumio has been named a Customers' Choice in Gartner Peer Insights Voice of the Customer for Network Security Microsegmentation, with the company reporting a 4.8 out of 5 overall rating and a 98% willingness-to-recommend score.

Illumio said it was one of two vendors placed in the Customers' Choice category. The company said it had 168 ratings in the Network Security Microsegmentation market on Gartner Peer Insights as of January 2026.

Gartner Peer Insights publishes reviews from IT and security practitioners. Gartner produces a Voice of the Customer report that summarises reviewer feedback and scoring across a market category.

In Gartner's Voice of the Customer format, vendors in the Customers' Choice quadrant meet or exceed the market average for user interest and adoption, and overall experience. Illumio pointed to that framework in describing the basis for the designation.

Product focus

Illumio sells security software focused on limiting lateral movement inside networks. The company positions this approach as breach containment. It describes the objective as isolating compromised systems and reducing the impact of an incident across connected infrastructure.

The company said its platform includes two products. It said the products sit on what it calls an AI security graph.

Illumio Insights is an AI-powered cloud detection and response tool. The company said the product identifies lateral movement risks and detects threats.

Illumio Segmentation is a microsegmentation product. The company said it protects critical assets and supports containment of attacks.

Illumio said the combined offering addresses attack surface reduction, threat detection, and breach containment. It said customers use the platform across hybrid and multicloud environments.

Customer feedback

Illumio highlighted themes it said appeared consistently in customer feedback. These included breach containment, visibility into traffic flows and application communications, and ease of use in policy management and deployment.

The company also pointed to scale in large environments and responsiveness of support during implementation and ongoing operations.

Several reviewers cited usability and operational experience in the customer quotes shared by Illumio. "Illumio provides an exceptionally well thought out product that makes it easy to secure your estate," said the Microsegmentation Tech Lead, Insurance.

One reviewer described the process from evaluation through rollout. "Our overall experience with Illumio has been really positive, from trialling the solution up to implementation and policy deployment. Illumio provides great visibility into our traffic flows as well as intuitive and effective policy enforcement to enhance our security posture," said Manager, IT Security and Risk Management, Energy and Utilities.

Another reviewer described the product's structure and vendor involvement. "The solution provided a structured approach to securing our environment by limiting lateral movement and enforcing granular access control. The vendor team demonstrated strong expertise in implementation and support ensuring that the platform was aligned with our business and compliance requirements," said the IT Security & Risk Management Associate, Insurance.

A reviewer from manufacturing focused on administration and tagging. "Product is very simple to use and provides immediate security. The ability to do firewall related functions via tagging and not needing to know IP addresses (it manages that) makes the time to move much quicker. It significantly helps dealing with incidents and allows much easier recovery," said a Senior Systems Administrator, Manufacturing.

A media-sector reviewer described a segmentation project for legacy networks. "We were looking for a solution to improve the segmentation of our legacy network with limited impact on the running of applications. We've discovered Illumio while participating to a cybersecurity forum and we've done a very successful POC. We've deployed Illumio and we're fully satisfied. Key values: micro-segmentation (very fine-grained segmentation), more visibility of the different flows, very easy to deploy and administrate," said a CISO, Media.

Market signals

Microsegmentation tools sit within a broader security shift towards controlling east-west traffic and limiting the spread of intrusions once attackers gain a foothold. Buyers often evaluate these products alongside endpoint controls, identity measures, and detection tools as they revisit internal network trust assumptions.

Illumio's latest update also underscores a convergence between segmentation products and detection and response tooling. The company described Illumio Insights as a cloud detection and response product that addresses lateral movement risk. It positions Illumio Segmentation as the enforcement layer.

Rubin said the company would continue to shape product direction around user input.
