Harness & Traceable merge to lead in AI-driven DevSecOps

Yesterday

Harness and Traceable have announced a merger aiming to create a new leader in AI-driven DevSecOps platforms.

Harness, the company behind the AI-Native Software Delivery Platform, and Traceable, known for its next-generation API Security Platform, revealed their merger in a joint statement. This agreement promises to bring together the strengths of both entities, offering a platform that intertwines software development and security approaches seamlessly.

Founded by Jyoti Bansal, also the co-founder and CEO of both companies, Harness and Traceable emerged from BIG Labs, a technology startup studio. Harness launched in 2017 to streamline software delivery processes, while Traceable began operations in 2020 with a focus on securing APIs and supporting modern software infrastructures. Both companies have been fueled by investors like Unusual Ventures, Menlo Ventures, and IVP, aiming to reshape the future of software delivery with their combined expertise.

The convergence of DevOps and application security is a pivotal theme for the merger. Currently, traditional security methods focusing on network and infrastructure are proving inadequate against sophisticated cyber threats, necessitating a design-focused security protocol that integrates deeply with the application development lifecycle. The merger hopes to address these growing concerns by creating a platform that responds to the demand for fast-paced innovation balanced with comprehensive security measures.

Jyoti Bansal commented, "Harness and Traceable are coming together at a pivotal moment in the industry. Software teams should not have to choose between speed and security when delivering innovation to their customers. The mutual interest from Harness and Traceable customers in an integrated DevSecOps platform has substantially accelerated over the last year, and the timing is right to deliver on this industry demand. By merging these industry-leading solutions, we will bring a next-generation DevSecOps platform to the market, setting a new standard for software delivery."

Jignesh Patel, Director Cloud & DevOps at Morningstar, shared his perspective as a customer of both companies: "As a customer of both Harness and Traceable, this merger is a game-changer for us. Having an integrated platform that seamlessly connects software development, delivery, and API security dramatically enhances our developer experience, enabling us to innovate faster while maintaining the highest security standards. By delivering a consistent user experience and deep product integrations, we can simplify workflows, remove the toil that slows our developers down, and empower them to focus on what matters most. The combination of Harness and Traceable will provide the solution that enterprises and developers have been waiting for."

AI continues to redefine the landscape of software delivery, a trend Harness and Traceable are prioritising through their newly merged venture. By integrating datasets from both companies, including software development processes from Harness and API-driven application security from Traceable, they intend to advance the development of AI-native agents aimed at enhancing the software delivery cycle in terms of speed, security, and overall efficiency.

Steve Harrick, General Partner at IVP, expressed his views on the merger: "This merger creates the most compelling AI-native platform for software teams to deliver safe, scalable code to their end users. The market demand for security to become a core part of the software development process has never been greater, leading to the swift convergence of these markets. Together, Harness and Traceable are not just keeping up with this evolution—they're leading it. With Jyoti Bansal at the helm, a visionary who has repeatedly built industry-defining companies, this combination is set to redefine how modern software is developed, delivered, and secured."

John Vrionis, Founder and Managing Partner at Unusual Ventures, noted Jyoti Bansal's capabilities: "Jyoti Bansal, my close friend and co-founder at Unusual Ventures, has consistently been ahead of the curve, building three iconic enterprise companies and redefining entire industries. His foresight in uniting DevOps and Security--now supercharged by AI--will give customers an unprecedented advantage, and I'm proud to be his partner in building the next great enterprise software company."
