GitLab deepens Anthropic Claude integration for governance

Wed, 29th Apr 2026 (Today)

GitLab has deepened its integration with Anthropic's Claude models, bringing Anthropic's latest models into GitLab Duo Agent Platform.

Users can access Claude models, including Claude Opus 4.7, through GitLab via Google Cloud and AWS Bedrock. This allows organisations to route AI workloads through existing hyperscaler relationships, cloud governance frameworks, vendor contracts and data residency arrangements.

The update also brings Claude models into the governance, compliance and audit framework already used across the GitLab platform. As a result, companies using AI agents in software development can manage those actions without adding a separate oversight layer.

The tighter integration comes as AI agents take on more work across planning, coding, testing, security and deployment. In that context, GitLab is positioning governance and visibility as central concerns for security and compliance teams.

GitLab has also joined the Claude Marketplace, allowing customers to buy GitLab credits and apply them to existing Anthropic spending commitments.

Governance focus

GitLab Duo Agent Platform is built into GitLab's broader DevSecOps environment, giving security and compliance teams visibility into how AI agents access code, infrastructure and pipeline context.

For large organisations, that may matter as they add third-party AI models to development workflows while keeping procurement, contracting and data handling within established controls. Access through Google Cloud and AWS Bedrock may also help companies that already run cloud purchases through those providers.

"The enterprises succeeding in the AI era are the ones that can give their engineering teams powerful AI capabilities without compromise," said Manav Khurana, Chief Product and Marketing Officer at GitLab. "This deepened integration brings Claude's latest models into GitLab's intelligent orchestration platform, where every agent action is fully audited, policies are enforced, and security teams stay in full control, so organisations don't have to choose between speed and governance."

Customer use

GitLab included a customer comment from Cube, which uses GitLab Duo in its software workflows.

"GitLab Duo has accelerated how our teams plan, build, and ship software," said Mans Booijink, Operations Manager at Cube. "The combination of Claude models and GitLab's platform means we're getting more capable AI without changing how we work or how it is governed."

Anthropic also framed the agreement around enterprise controls and auditability as companies expand the use of AI in software engineering.

"GitLab and Anthropic share a belief that AI should unlock developer potential without asking enterprises to compromise on governance," said Sam Werboff, Head of Enterprise GTM at Anthropic. "Bringing Claude deeper into GitLab Duo Agent Platform means shared customers get more capable AI across the full software development lifecycle, with the compliance and auditability their teams already depend on."

GitLab says it has more than 50 million registered users and counts half of the Fortune 100 among its customers. The latest integration adds to a broader push by software development platform providers to embed large language models directly into coding and delivery tools, while keeping security, compliance and procurement under the same controls as the rest of the development stack.
