Genetec unveils AI automation tools to streamline video searches

Mon, 22nd Sep 2025

Genetec has introduced new intelligent automation-powered investigation features in its Security Centre SaaS solution, aiming to enhance the speed and efficiency with which operators can locate video evidence and understand incident context.

Many organisations currently face lengthy and complicated investigations, often requiring extended periods manually reviewing video footage and switching between different systems. The latest expansion of Security Centre SaaS seeks to address this challenge by streamlining workflows into a single, intuitive platform.

The system now allows operators to search for people or vehicles using natural language and advanced filters, within both live and recorded footage. In addition to simplifying searches, the solution automatically supplements results with contextual insights, which may include nearby activity, information about what occurred before and after an incident, and the identification of individuals with similar appearances.

This development is intended to relieve operators of the guesswork involved in determining which camera feed to focus upon, removing the need to review multiple video sources or use several separate tools to reconstruct the timeline of an incident.

Open architecture

Security Centre SaaS has been developed on an open architecture platform, enabling compatibility with a broad array of cameras and devices from different manufacturers. This flexibility lets organisations select hardware that meets their requirements without being confined to a single supplier. By leveraging metadata from a diverse range of camera models, operators can use new advanced search capabilities to access more precise and context-rich information quickly.

Jonathan Doyon, Senior Product Group Director at Genetec, said:

"Security professionals are often under pressure to quickly analyse large volumes of video and data, especially following critical incidents. Our new intelligent search gives investigation teams a faster, more intuitive way to find relevant evidence, piece together timelines, and securely share results, all from a single, unified interface. With the new investigation capabilities in Security Centre SaaS, we're delivering a unified, context-aware investigation experience where operators can quickly understand what happened and act with confidence. This is the kind of innovation security teams have been asking for, and this is only the beginning."

Key features

One significant addition is intelligent search, which enables users to begin an IA-powered investigation directly from the video player by selecting a person, vehicle, or object. The system tailors the search workflow to the operator's choice and initiates relevant processes, which the company states reduces guesswork and speeds up investigations.

The nearby activity feature provides the means to determine the events that took place before or after a particular incident. Investigators can find people or vehicles detected near a scene within a set time window, which can help establish contextual information around suspicious activity or confirm movement patterns relative to specific reference images.

The system also offers entry and exit detection, helping pinpoint the exact moment that a person, vehicle, or object enters or leaves the view of a camera. This feature facilitates rapid review of scene changes and provides precise data for incident analysis and official reporting.

Another tool, similar people, uses advanced similarity detection to locate individuals with similar visual characteristics across multiple cameras, even in complex, multi-site, and multi-vendor environments. The solution accomplishes this by creating unique digital profiles for each person based on visual information.

Availability and privacy protections

The new investigation features will become available to all Security Centre SaaS users from late September. According to Genetec, the upgrade will enable operators to search, review, and export video evidence more quickly while maintaining traceability and privacy protections throughout the process.
