Genetec secures second spot in global access control market

Today

Genetec has been identified as a leading market player in the access control software sector, securing its number two global position, according to the 2024 Access Control report by research firm Omdia.

The report highlights that, in the Americas, access control software has transcended its traditional role to become a vital component of business operations. This shift has resulted in a growing demand for unified security platforms that allow organisations to oversee systems such as access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection from a centralised interface. The report indicates that Genetec has responded to this demand effectively, achieving a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 28% over the past six years.

"While many legacy access control vendors rely on acquisitions to expand their market share, Genetec has achieved rapid organic growth through innovation and investment in new technologies," said Christian Morin, Vice President of Product Engineering at Genetec. "Over the last year, we introduced Security Center SaaS, HID Mercury Security MP controllers, Axis Powered by Genetec, and an I/O module in partnership with STid as part of our European high assurance access control system offering. This demonstrates our commitment to expanding our access control portfolio through innovation and partnerships, paving the way for future growth."

In the EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) region, Genetec is recognised as one of the top 10 providers of access control software. The company's strategy focuses on open architecture systems that allow users to integrate components from various vendors. This aligns with Omdia's findings that end users in the EMEA region prefer open systems that offer flexibility and customisation, which supports Genetec's regional strategy and its partnership with STid.

In Asia-Pacific, excluding China, Genetec has significantly expanded its market presence, achieving the sixth position, an improvement from its tenth position in 2021. The rise is attributed to enterprises and multinational corporations modernising their access control systems, seeking solutions that are feature-rich and secure, and valuing strong integration capabilities. Genetec's open architecture solutions, which enhance asset and personnel security, streamline operations, and allow gradual technology upgrades, cater to these demands.

The adoption of hybrid cloud deployments in the access control market is notable, and the report indicates Genetec is leading this transition. Genetec's Security Center SaaS leverages cloud technology to extend the capabilities of access control and video management. It supports both hybrid and full cloud deployments, enabling organisations to transition to the cloud at their own pace while maintaining flexibility in choosing compatible access control devices.

Beyond its access control accomplishments, Genetec has maintained its top position in the global Video Management Software (VMS) market. The Omdia report also recognised Genetec as leading in the combined VMS and Video Surveillance as a Service (VSaaS) market, highlighting its continued prominence in the sector.
