Genetec adds cloud-native audio to Security Centre SaaS platform
Genetec has announced the addition of cloud-native audio communications capabilities to its Security Centre SaaS platform.
The new feature integrates intercom support and SIP-based audio into the unified Security Centre SaaS interface, which also handles video, access control, and intrusion monitoring.
The company stated that with the expansion into cloud-native audio, security teams in education, retail, and healthcare sectors can use real-time audio alongside video and access control to improve operational response and situational management.
With the audio communications now built into Security Centre SaaS, operators can speak directly with individuals at entry points, verify identities using live video feeds, and take immediate action without having to change systems or interfaces. This aims to streamline incident response by allowing personnel to work entirely within a single platform.
Real-time communication
Christian Morin, Vice President of Product Engineering at Genetec, said, "Our goal is to give customers the same freedom with audio that they already expect from video and access control."
"Organisations can choose the intercom devices that best fit their needs, and manage them through a single cloud-native platform without being tied into a vendor's proprietary ecosystem."
The new communications feature is designed to support a range of deployments, from a handful of intercoms to thousands across large enterprises. It is based on an open architecture, which visibly allows organisations to test or scale deployments using compatible intercom devices. At launch, the platform will support Axis network intercoms, and Genetec indicated that additional vendor support would be introduced through future updates.
Open architecture and device support
Fredrik Nilsson, Vice President Americas at Axis Communications, commented on the integration, stating, "The native integration of Axis intercoms into Security Centre SaaS built with Axis Cloud Connect means customers get enterprise-grade communications without the complexity of standalone systems."
"Security teams can manage Axis intercoms directly in the same platform they use for video surveillance, access control, event-to-action automation, forensic search, data analysis, and more. This improves situational awareness and helps operators respond to incidents more effectively," he added.
The emphasis on an open architecture is intended to give organisations flexibility to select hardware that meets their specific requirements, as opposed to being bound to a proprietary ecosystem.
The cloud-native approach is also expected to lower initial investment thresholds and reduce complexity for early-stage or pilot deployments.
Security and compliance
The company confirmed that cybersecurity and privacy considerations were central to the design of the audio communications feature. Similar to the handling of video and access control data, audio information is treated as confidential and is protected in transit through encrypted communications.
Audit trails are available to support accountability during investigations, and the platform offers automated software updates and regular security patches to address emerging threats.
The rollout of communications for Security Centre SaaS is scheduled to be available to customers globally through Genetec's accredited channel partners. The company serves an international client base and has stated that the same robust security measures are embedded across all supported cloud-native features.
Genetec's Security Centre SaaS caters to enterprises, governments, and various organisations requiring unified management of video, access control, intrusion monitoring, and now audio communications, within a single cloud-based interface.
