Fortinet launches AI assistant to revolutionise cybersecurity threat detection
Tue, 12th Dec 2023

Fortinet, a global cybersecurity firm, has launched Fortinet Advisor, an innovative generative AI (GenAI) assistant. This cutting-edge tool joins the company's growing portfolio of over 40 AI-powered solutions. It is set to revolutionise threat detection and mitigation efforts by assisting security operations (SecOps) teams in their investigations and remediation tasks faster than ever.

Artificial intelligence has been integral to Fortinet Security Fabric and FortiGuard Labs' threat intelligence and security services for over a decade. The deployment of the GenAI tool, Fortinet Advisor, represents the latest stride towards fortifying customers' defences and ensuring their business continuity. Augmenting and assisting SecOps teams will enable expedited detection, investigation, and mitigation of digital threats.

Founder, President and Chief Technology Officer of Fortinet, Michael Xie, expressed excitement toward building on Fortinet's reputation as an innovator in AI-powered cybersecurity. The Fortinet Advisor merges Fortinet's vast intelligence network with GenAI to enhance security team productivity and expedite threat detection and mitigation, affirming the company's commitment to putting the transformative power of AI technology into its customer's hands.

Michael Xie said, "Fortinet has pioneered AI innovation within cybersecurity, and to date, we've delivered more than 40 AI-powered offerings that put the transformative power of this technology into customers' hands."

"We're excited to build on our legacy as a leader in AI cybersecurity innovation with Fortinet Advisor, which combines Fortinet's vast intelligence network with the benefits of GenAI to increase security team productivity and accelerate threat detection and mitigation."

Currently, Fortinet Advisor is available within FortiSIEM, Fortinet's security information and event management solution, and FortiSOAR, Fortinet's security orchestration, automation, and response offering. It provides contextually aware incident analysis, remediation guidance, playbook templates, and more, helping organisations reduce the time needed to detect and respond to threats and improve their overall risk posture.

With the ability to generate easy-to-understand summaries of security incidents, help analysts produce productive queries for investigations, suggest threat remediation plans, and create playbook templates, Fortinet Advisor aids in rapid threat response. The AI assistant also utilises feedback from analysts to refine the proposed response plans, making the SecOps teams more efficient and productive.

Its knowledge base is constantly updated with the latest threat information by Fortinet's AI and product experts to optimise interactions and results. This adoption of AI, which drives its Security Fabric, aids in detecting zero-day threats and refining and resolving networking and security issues, even before they adversely impact any organisation.

Jon Oltsik, a distinguished analyst and fellow at the Enterprise Strategy Group, highlighted the power of GenAI in enabling security teams to be smarter, more efficient, and more productive. "GenAI has the power to make security teams smarter, more efficient, and more productive," Oltsik said.

"Fortinet Advisor, which is backed by Fortinet's long history of AI innovation and deep threat expertise, can help organisations improve business operations and harden themselves against attack, especially for those struggling with the cybersecurity skills gap."

Fortinet Advisor, backed by Fortinet's extensive history of AI innovation and threat expertise, promises to refine business operations and enhance defences against attacks, especially beneficial to organisations grappling with the cybersecurity skills gap.
