DroneShield secures AUD $5.2 million European military contract
Australian counterdrone systems firm DroneShield has secured a contract worth AUD $5.2 million (EUR €2.9 million) through an in-country European reseller for supply to an unnamed European military customer. The supply deal covers handheld counter-drone systems and associated accessories, with a scheduled cash payment set for the fourth quarter of 2025.
Military contracts
The latest deal brings the total value of separate contracts awarded by this customer, via the same reseller, to over AUD $70 million (EUR €39.2 million) across twelve separate orders. DroneShield confirmed it holds all necessary inventory to fulfil the new order without further conditions or requirements.
The Australian manufacturer has an established working relationship with the European reseller, spanning three years. The reseller is contractually obliged to distribute the systems exclusively to its European military client.
European operations
Droneshield has seen rapid growth in its European footprint. In June, it secured three follow-on European contracts totalling AUD $61.6 million, at the time the largest single order in its history. The company has also announced plans for a manufacturing and assembly facility in Europe, marking its first such operation outside Australia.
Domestic expansion
Within Australia, DroneShield is investing an further AUD $13 million to establish a new research and development centre in Adelaide. This initiative will create 20 highly skilled engineering roles in the city.
"South Australia is the Defence State, and has been recognised by the Business Council as the best place in the country to do business. We welcome DroneShield making the choice to conduct research and development here in Adelaide, creating 20 highly skilled engineering roles. As a Government, we have a strong focus on growing our Research and Development ecosystem, which has the capacity to build our economic complexity and our state's prosperity," said The Hon Peter Malinauskas, Premier of South Australia.
Broader applications
The company is also broadening its offering beyond defence by expanding into sectors such as aviation. DroneShield has integrated aviation surveillance data into its counter-drone platform to enhance detection and tracking capabilities.
"Integrating ADS-B data reflects our vision for a future of comprehensive airspace awareness. By expanding DroneSentry-C2's capabilities to include both crewed and uncrewed aviation ADS-B data, we are adding to our customers situational awareness that they need to make faster, safer, and more confident decisions in complex environments," said Angus Bean, Chief Product Officer, DroneShield.
