Dell expands data protection solutions amid rising cyberattacks
Dell is broadening its data protection portfolio with appliances, software, and as-a-service offerings. These enhancements aim to bolster customers' cyber resiliency amidst escalating cyberattack incidents.
The company's innovation in data protection allows customers to build a robust and cyber-resilient architecture to shield data on-premises, in the cloud, and at the edge. Findings from the 2024 Dell Global Data Protection Index (GDPI) survey underscore the need for these developments, with 75% expressing the inadequacy of their existing protection measures against ransomware attacks and almost 70% doubting their ability to recover reliably from a cyberattack.
Arthur Lewis, President of Dell Technologies' Infrastructure Solutions Group, noted: "With the exponential growth of data, generative AI (GenAI) presents organisations with opportunities to streamline processes, improve decision-making, and drive innovation. However, it also extends the attack surface for cyberattacks. With this expanding digital landscape that exposes more vulnerability gaps, companies are increasing their reliance on Dell to help protect their data wherever it resides with trusted data protection and AI offerings."
Dell has unveiled the next-generation Power Protect Data Domain DD9410 and DD9910 systems. These offerings are designed for large enterprises and provide increased performance for various workloads, enhanced security and cyber resilience for customer data, improved efficiency, and superior scalability. Also, these systems' efficiency results in about 11% less power consumed, and they offer industry-leading 65x deduplication.
Rich Jackson, data protection architect at the State of Michigan, affirmed trust in Dell: "We have been relying on PowerProtect Data Domain appliances to keep our data secure for over a decade and a half now. We have no doubts that the latest generation of appliances will continue to increase protection performance and the security of our data."
The launch also includes Dell APEX Backup Services AI, an integrated GenAI assistant for backup and recovery. This service streamlines protection processes and is expected to meet the rising demand for GenAI data protection, likely stemming from 52% of GDPI survey respondents who foresee GenAI providing an advantage to their organisation's cybersecurity posture.
The suite also comes with Storage Direct Protection packed in Dell PowerProtect Data Manager. It offers native integration with Dell PowerMax enterprise storage and facilitates efficient, speedy, and more secure backup and recovery. Notably, it also offers multicloud support for PowerProtect Data Domain replication and cloud tiering. Dell's new advancements will be available globally, with Storage Direct Protection for Dell PowerMax expected to be globally available in the third quarter of 2024.
Dell's advances and services have gained recognition from IDC's research vice president, Phil Goodwin, who stated: "Dell's portfolio of data protection solutions supports numerous data protection best practices to help organisations modernise their data protection environment."
