Datadog achieves IRAP Protected status to support Australian public sector
Datadog has confirmed that its services have been independently assessed and now meet the Infosec Registered Assessors Programme (IRAP) Protected classification, a security benchmark for vendors serving Australian public sector agencies and regulated industries.
The IRAP Protected assessment encompasses Datadog's suite of observability and security tools, including Infrastructure Monitoring, Application Performance Monitoring, Log Management, LLM Observability, Bits AI, Cloud SIEM, and Synthetics, all delivered from its Australia-based infrastructure. This new classification assures government departments and organisations in regulated sectors that Datadog aligns with some of the most stringent security requirements in the region.
This development is particularly significant for agencies and entities managing sensitive government data, as the IRAP Protected classification facilitates the use of Datadog's monitoring and security platform within environments that require heightened security controls and compliance. With this designation, these organisations are expected to experience fewer procurement hurdles and be able to accelerate the adoption of secure, unified observability and security practices in cloud and hybrid environments.
Support for government and regulated sectors
Industry stakeholders have highlighted the role of IRAP compliance in supporting the operational needs of public sector organisations. Fabio Carvana, Head of Managed Services at Australian consultancy Mantel, commented on the significance of Datadog's achievement for service providers and their clients.
"As a home-grown Australian consultancy, Mantel has a long history of supporting secure, IRAP-compliant platforms. We see Datadog as an absolutely crucial technology partner in securing data for the public sector. Its achievement of IRAP assessed services for Protected classified information is a huge step that directly enables us to deliver best-in-class, modern observability services with the highest level of government confidence."
For many government agencies, IRAP compliance is a core requirement in technology procurement, providing assurance around the secure management and protection of highly sensitive data. Datadog's successful independent assessment is expected to help address these procurement challenges and open the opportunity for its implementation across a wider base within the public sector and regulated industries in both Australia and New Zealand.
Accelerating secure cloud transformation
Roz Gregory, Regional Vice President for Australia and New Zealand at Datadog, stated that achieving IRAP Protected status removes a significant barrier to cloud adoption among the region's most regulated sectors.
"We've cleared one of the highest security bars in Australia and New Zealand, removing roadblocks and accelerating secure cloud adoption for the region's most regulated sectors. Government agencies and regulated organisations can confidently rely on Datadog to monitor their most sensitive workloads in line with high security standards."
This recognition also means Datadog supports regulatory requirements, such as those under Australia's CPS 230 standard, and can better aid agencies in meeting their digital transformation, modernisation, and operational resilience objectives. The move demonstrates continued investment in compliance infrastructure and regional product offerings to address local needs.
Continued investment in security and compliance
The IRAP Protected classification follows Datadog's recent launch of a local data centre in Australia and is part of the company's wider push to meet the assurance needs of governments worldwide, including developments such as an in-process assessment for the US Federal Risk and Authorization Management Programme (FedRAMP) High status.
Gregory described this progression as another demonstration of Datadog's commitment to regional and sector-specific security requirements:
"This new designation underscores our commitment to security, compliance and trust for our customers in A/NZ, and builds on the recent launch of our data centre presence in Australia - proving we're not just investing in the region, but that we're here to power its most critical systems, securely."
As Datadog continues to develop its observability and security platform, its efforts to obtain and maintain independent compliance certifications reflect a broader strategy to support the regulatory needs of public sector and enterprise organisations internationally, while scaling local investments to strengthen customer trust.
