Data Republic and SAS collaborate on secure data sharing & analytics platform

Data governance provider Data Republic and analytics provider SAS have teamed up to provide  public and private sector organisations a way to share anonymised data in a secure manner, the companies announced last week.

In addition to anonymised data sharing and analysis, Data Republic’s Senate Platform ensures customer privacy by using de-identification technology, full data encryption and ‘private by design’ governance controls.

Organisations can then govern data requests and managed shared data analysis projects on dedicated online analytics workspaces.

Last year Data Republic scored a contract with the New South Wales Government to provide the platform, called Senate.

“Recognising the importance of share data is a big step in the right direction for NSW as data moves to become the world’s most valuable resource. We hope this partnership will empower other governments and agencies to participate in similar data initiatives, facilitating better interoperability,” commented Data Republic co-founder and CEO Paul McCarney.

The latest partnership with SAS is what McCarney says was a logical step for the company’s growth.

“While the service we offer has included analytics capabilities since the very beginning, many of our customers are leading banks, government agencies and other large organisations who already use SAS in house. Through this partnership they will now also be able to leverage their SAS expertise when managing shared data projects on the Data Republic platform.”

SAS vice president of Australia and New Zealand David Bowie adds that the partnership is also thanks to its customers.

“As much for the obvious benefits for our two companies, we have partnered in this way through the urging of several of our own long-time SAS customers. Data Republic’s offering is gaining wide acceptance by many of the same organisations we have served for many years, and they will now enjoy further advantage from their investments in SAS skills and knowhow.”

SAS analytics users will be able to work with Data Republic on a pay-per-use basis. SAS will provide the specific elements of software required for the project.

The SAS software will also reside in Data Republic’s online ecosystem for the duration of the project.

“And I think we can reasonably expect that – thanks to the fast growing take up of Data Republic’s solution – we may see more organisations adopting SAS analytics for insights to decision making,” Bowie concludes.

Data Republic is a Sydney-based startup backed by firms including Westpac, Qantas Loyalty, NAB, Qualgro, and ANZ.

Since Data Republic’s secure data sharing ecosystem launched in 016, it has grown rapidly to include more than 340 brands, service providers and consulting partners. They use the platform to negotiate and collaborate on shared data projects.
