Cythera appoints Jason Whyte to lead Australian integration
Cythera has appointed Jason Whyte as Managing Director for Australia as the cybersecurity provider expands its operations and brings two group businesses under the Cythera brand.
Whyte will run Cythera's Australian business and lead the integration of Seamless Intelligence and Phronesis Security into the Cythera name. Cythera operates as part of Bastion Group.
The company said Whyte has more than 25 years of experience in cybersecurity and has held leadership roles at Trustwave, Verizon, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
Integration Plan
Cythera described the Cythera brand as the group's flagship identity in the Australian market. The company plans to align Seamless Intelligence and Phronesis Security under that identity as part of the operating model in Australia.
Seamless Intelligence provides managed services, according to the company. Phronesis Security provides specialist consulting.
The move places emphasis on group integration within Bastion Group's portfolio of cybersecurity brands. Bastion Group also lists Bastion Security among its brands.
Market Focus
Cythera said it sees a gap between the purchase of security tools and the use of security insights inside organisations. The company linked that challenge to decision-making and business action.
One area of focus cited by the company is the intersection of IT and operational technology environments. Cythera referenced IT/OT convergence as a factor in current risk conditions.
"The biggest fear for any CEO or board today is a breach that impacts brand equity and brings the whole system down. The reality is that no fortress is impenetrable, especially in the dynamic days of IT/OT convergence," said Jason Whyte, Managing Director, Cythera.
"My mission over the next 18 months is to help Australian businesses move beyond simple tool-based protection toward true operational resiliency. We want to remove the cognitive load from executives by turning cyber risk into a manageable business variable rather than an all-consuming and omnipresent threat", said Whyte.
Sovereign Positioning
Cythera said it will continue to work across public and private sectors. The company also pointed to compliance requirements as part of its work with customers.
Whyte placed focus on onshore expertise and data sovereignty as a point of differentiation. The company linked that position to the impact of breaches and the effect of legislation on Australian organisations.
"As security breaches and correlating legislation continue to broaden their impact on Australian organisations, a core differentiator will be our commitment to onshore expertise and data sovereignty. Local expertise and 'boots on the ground' are not just buzzwords; they are essential for national resiliency," said Whyte.
Cythera also highlighted concern among customers about offshore ownership and offshore service delivery models. The company referenced acquisitions of local providers by offshore businesses as a factor in buyer sentiment.
"Clients are increasingly uneasy with global offshore alternatives, especially when their local security provider gets acquired by an offshore company. By leveraging the combined capabilities of Cythera, Seamless, and Phronesis, we offer a unique sovereign advantage-local people who understand the specific geopolitical context and market risks facing Australian businesses", said Whyte.
Bastion Group
Bastion Group Chief Executive Eugene Gibney said the appointment forms part of its plan to unify its Australian brands under the Cythera name.
One brief context statement from Bastion Group framed the hire around leadership and alignment across its cybersecurity brands in Australia.
"Jason's deep commercial experience and global perspective make him the ideal leader to unite our Australian brands under the Cythera flagship. His focus on shifting the perception of security from a cost centre to a competitive business enabler aligns perfectly with Bastion's vision of delivering service excellence."
Cythera said it provides managed protection around the clock, alongside threat detection and advisory services. Bastion Group described its coverage as spanning the Trans-Tasman region through its portfolio of security brands.
Whyte said his focus for the next 18 months will centre on operational resilience for Australian businesses.
