Arinco delivers secure data platform for WA environmental sharing
Arinco has delivered a secure and scalable data platform to support the Shared Environmental Analytics Facility (SEAF), a cross-sector data-sharing initiative in Western Australia.
The SEAF platform was commissioned by the Western Australian Biodiversity Science Institute (WABSI) and the Western Australian Marine Science Institution (WAMSI). Its goal is to facilitate data sharing and collaboration across government, research, and private organisations for environmental management and sustainability.
Data-driven assessments
At the core of SEAF is an Integrated Groundwater Database, designed to serve as the primary source for environmental impact assessments. The platform brings together data from government agencies, the private sector, and research organisations, creating a centralised environment with advanced analytical tools. These capabilities include mapping, detailed reporting, and forecasting to support cumulative impact assessments as well as balancing the dual goals of development and conservation.
Brendan Busch, Technical Lead for the SEAF platform at WABSI and WAMSI, said:
"Arinco has delivered a world-class platform that combines cutting-edge technology with best-in-class security and governance. Their expertise has been instrumental in not only ensuring the integrity and security of the data but also in fostering the trust required for this unique collaboration."
Security and compliance
Security and data governance are central to the SEAF platform. Separate workspaces have been provided for each participating organisation, while a centralised analytical environment enables consistency and reliability across diverse data sources. The infrastructure is scalable to accommodate increasing data volumes and allow for adoption in additional regions as required by emerging sustainability initiatives in Western Australia.
Matthew Mills, Lead Data Consultant at Arinco, said: "At Arinco, we are proud to have played a pivotal role in delivering this secure and scalable platform that empowers stakeholders to make better, more informed decisions."
Further highlighting the technological capabilities of the platform, Julian Cape, Data Consultant at Arinco, stated: "The SEAF platform is a testament to Arinco's expertise in building innovative, secure solutions that drive sustainable change and support long-term environmental goals."
Broader impact
According to WABSI and WAMSI, the adoption of SEAF is already reshaping environmental impact assessment workflows by enabling integrated analysis from multiple perspectives. The platform is intended to improve transparency and trust among involved parties – researchers, industry, and regulators – as they collectively assess and monitor environmental outcomes across the state.
The deployment of SEAF is viewed as a significant step in Western Australia's ongoing effort to align development with sustainability, aiming to address both current and anticipated challenges in environmental protection. The design of SEAF reflects a recognition of the need for robust data governance structures as regulatory and commercial demands on environmental data continue to increase.
The platform's scalability also positions SEAF for potential expansion to a national or international context, supporting broader collaboration and the possibility of adoption by other regions interested in similar data-driven approaches to environmental stewardship.
