Igel & Zscaler team up to enhance remote work security

Today

IGEL has announced the compatibility of its IGEL OS with Zscaler's Cloud Browser Isolation and Privileged Remote Access solutions, offering a secure and cost-effective agentless solution for remote and hybrid work environments.

The collaboration between IGEL and Zscaler aims to provide organisations with the means to empower their employees and contractors with secure access to applications and systems, while bolstering cybersecurity through a zero trust framework. Zscaler serves as a key partner for IGEL in the secure access service edge (SASE) and security service edge (SSE) sectors.

Jim Airdo, Senior Vice President of IGEL Ready and Strategic Alliances at IGEL, commented, "Zscaler and IGEL provide a unique, cost-optimized connect-and-protect solution for the modern enterprise workforce. With this solution, employees and contractors can securely connect to apps and systems from hardened endpoints with full data protection capabilities."

Amit Raikar, Vice President of Technology Alliances and Business Development at Zscaler, added, "Today's enterprise workforces require a robust and flexible zero trust solution to securely access applications from any device via the browser of choice. IGEL's partnership with Zscaler enables a simple, agentless way to connect and protect modern end-user computing."

IGEL OS is characterised as a lightweight and secure operating system designed to offer an optimal platform for accessing Zscaler's solutions. The system facilitates access to software-as-a-service (SaaS) and private cloud applications as well as remote desktops, without the need for traditional virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) or additional local operating systems.

The Zscaler Cloud Browser Isolation uses the existing browser on IGEL OS endpoints to securely stream experience-optimised pixels to users' devices without actual data transfer. It incorporates restrictions such as clipboard controls, blocks on uploads and downloads, printing limitations, watermarking, and file isolation features. At the same time, Zscaler Privileged Remote Access permits secure access to RDP, SSH, and VNC targets through the IGEL OS, offering session controls such as recording and proctoring without increasing the footprint on thin clients.

Customers of IGEL and Zscaler can expect several benefits from this integration. These include cost savings from more efficient operating system spending, avoidance of investment in VDI or third-party enterprise browsers, and simplified agentless deployment for instant access. Furthermore, users can choose their preferred endpoint device and browser, benefit from layered security to protect against threats, and adapt rapidly to evolving work conditions.

Airdo further explained, "Most enterprise apps now live in the cloud. Given this reality, the fastest and most cost-effective way to productivity is directly connecting workers to applications from right-sized laptops, while protecting against malware and data loss. IGEL OS rethinks the need for a heavy, vulnerable OS running on a pricey laptop. The secure endpoint OS is tailored to work in modern, cloud-centric environments, for full productivity that maximises the use of local, thin client computing. It natively offers preventative security to stop attacks and malware on the endpoint while preventing data from reaching the local machine."
