Former Symantec sales head leads Gurucul expansion in Asia

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Security intelligence provider Gurucul is setting its sights on the Asia Pacific region to meet product demand, with former Symantec/Blue Coat head of sales Sandeep Puri leading the way.

Puri will mobilise Gurucul's go-to-market strategy for India and Southeast Asia, where the company has several customer deployments.

Gurucul CEO Saryu Nayyar says that Puri's proven sales experience from Symantec has formed strong relationships in the enterprise market and system integrators.

“His leadership and experience in helping customers successfully adopt innovative security products in the fast growing APAC cyber security market will ensure that Gurucul capitalizes on burgeoning demand in the region," Nayyar says.

The company cites Verizon's 2017 Data Breach Investigation Report which found that 81% of breaches take advantage of stolen or weak passwords.

As a result, the company says that Asia and India in particular are experiencing an increase of risk and threat assessment tools amongst organisations that need continuous protection.

Gurucul already has a presence in India and will expand its presence through sales and service staff, as well as infrastructure.

Puri says Gurucul's reputation as an advanced security analytics and user and entity behavior analytics (UEBA) provider is an exciting prospect.

"The company's mature product addresses three of the most challenging aspects of IT and information security -- insider threats, account compromise and privilege abuse."

“Gurucul already has traction in India among enterprise customers and strong relationships with major information technology services companies. I look forward to extending Gurucul's footprint in the region," Puri concludes.

In addition to his Symantec/Blue Coat roles, Puri has more than 20 years of experience across business development, channel and sales management in India. He has also managed storage and networking product lines for IBM india.
